Bridge is a card game played between two teams of two players each. It is similar to ‘Call break’. It is a world wide recognized sport with around 115 countries as members of World Bridge Federation (World governing body).
Some of the international tournaments are: World championship (McConnell Trophy), World Zonal team Championship (Bermuda Bowl) etc.
Bridge was included as a demonstration sport in Salt Lake City (USA) Winter Olympics 2002. Efforts are being made for its Olympic status.
Nepal Bridge Association is one of the thirty-seven sports associations. Rastriya Khelkud Parishad has categorized bridge as ‘a sport played in selected subgroup of society’ under ‘Vision Mission 2020’.
There are 6-7 bridge clubs in Kathmandu Valley who frequently participate in different tournaments. One popular club is Kathmandu Bridge Club at Tripureshwar.
SAARC Bridge Championship is an annual event; Nepal is one of the participants.
Bridge is a mind sport and it is featured in newspapers along with chess, crossword puzzle etc.
